Tyler Atwell wins State Championship!

Congratulations to MCHS Senior Tyler Atwell for winning the State Championship title in the 140 lb weight class!

And also congrats to Jarrett Brumett for his third place finish in the 135 lb class and Bobby Basta for fourth at 124 lbs….from the Culpeper Star Exponent.

From the MCHS Athletics website:

The Wrestling team qualified 7 wrestlers for the Group A State meet in Salem this weekend and came home with a 3rd place trophy. The team was led by Senior Tyler Atwell who won the State Championship in the 140 pound division. Atwell becomes only the 3rd wrestler in Madison wrestling history to win a state championship. George Webb and Tommy Frazier were the other 2 champions. All 7 Madison wrestlers placed in the top 7. Jarrett Brumett (135) finished 3rd, Bobby Basta (125) finished 4th, Baxter Helmick (145) was 6th and Dylan Basta (119), Ethan O’Connell (130) and Brandon Utz (215) all finished 7th. Glenvar won the team State Championship followed by Runner-up Strasburg and Madison was 3rd, which was the highest team finish in Madison Wrestling history. Congratulations to Coach Mike Sacra and all the wrestlers for a great season.
