Madison Girl’s Soccer vs George Mason

Published by at 9:38 pm under george mason, girls soccer

Sooooo….did we witness history today?  Am I correct that we’ve never beaten nor tied George Mason in the history of girl’s soccer at MCHS?  Whether or not that’s true, tying the defending State Champions is a pretty big deal!

UPDATE:  In 2005, MCHS varsity girls beat George Mason 1-0 at Madison on a goal by Holly Grubb.  To my knowledge, that is the only time Madison has beaten Mason.  (Thanks to Bruce Parker for the updated info!)

Samantha Cubbage scored Madison’s lone goal a little over 6 minutes into the game.  Mason would tie it around the 20 minute mark…and it stayed that way through the end of the game and through two overtimes.  Lots of close scoring chances by both teams…but neither could pull off the win.  So, Madison’s record goes to 7-0-1, and they’ve outscored their opponents 38-2.    Next up, Clarke on Tuesday….

    Hey John
In 2005, MCHS varsity girls beat George Mason 1-0 at Madison on a goal by Holly Grubb. To my knowledge, that is the only time Madison has beaten Mason. In 2006, they came within a goal in the Bull Run District semifinals but lost 2-1(?) in OT(?).
Great pictures, especially Sam’s Clarke goal.
Thanks for coming out to the games, we’ll try to keep things interesting.

Bruce, thanks for the info! I’ve updated the post.

And thanks to both of you for the comments. These girls have been interesting for a while and I expect this to continue to be an interesting season!

Don’t be too surprised if you see me AT Mason on the 7th 🙂
