The Boys Varsity Basketball team ended 2011 with a bang tonight. First, they honored the 2010 State Championship team prior to the game and then beat Page County 72-37.
The Mountaineers dominated from the opening tip racing out to a 19-10 lead after the 1st quarter and leading 35-15 at the half.
The Mountaineers appeared to learn from the late game mistakes they made in the past two games and put the game out of reach in the 3rd quarter leading by 32 points, 68-32.
The 4th quarter saw plenty of action from the Mountaineer reserves who all played well.
Matt Temple led the way for Madison with 22 points 13 rebounds. Patrick Roebuck added 15 points and Bobby Ford had 13.Travis Warren was 1 point shy of a triple double finishing the game with 9 points, 17 assists and 11 rebounds.
And no, I did not get Nick’s dunk. The ref below blocked the whole thing. He was in front of me for the dunk, then after the dunk, he turned to run back the other way and blocked the reaction to the dunk. Grrrrr…..
Their official team photo has been hung in Wetsel Gym. Come on out Friday night and honor our 2010 Boy’s Basketball State Champions. There will be a little ceremony prior to the varsity game.

The Girls Varsity Basketball team beat Page County tonight 39-32 to improve to 3-6 on the season.
Madison took the lead early in the 1st quarter and never trailed the remainder of the game. Renee Lucas led the way with 9 points and Chandler Gentry added 8 points for the Mountaineers. Madison also got some clutch free throw shooting from Alexis Smithwho went 4-4 in the last minute of the game to ice the win.
Madison lost a close one tonight 72-68, in overtime to William Monroe. Travis Warren led the way for Madison with 20 points, Matt Temple had 19 (14 of those in the first quarter). ScrimmagePlay.com article on the game.
