Madison ended their season tonight with a 88-72 loss at Page in the Region B, Division 1 Tournament Quarter Finals.  Madison was led in scoring by seniors Travis Warren with 25, Patrick Roebuck with 14, and Nick Paxton with 10.  (click on any photo to see the gallery)

Madison sent three wrestlers to the State Championships this year, Anthony Jewett, Jeff Foster, and J.P. Utz.  Jewett and Foster placed 3rd and 6th in the State, respectively.

Anthony Jewett lost his semi final match to Ze’ev Lailarri of George Mason, 2-0, in overtime to drop him out of contention for a second State title.  Anthony defeated J.I. Burton’s Logan Dean 8-3 in OT to advance to the 3rd/4th place match, and defeated Lee High’s Corey Burgan 4-2 to take third place in the State.  (Buffalo Gap’s Zac Richey, who Anthony defeated last year to win his State title, went on to win the State Championship this year in the 160# class.)

After a loss on Friday, Jeff Foster worked his way through the consolation rounds and finished in 6th place in the state with a 15-5 loss to Alex Burke of Glenvar in the fifth/sixth place match.  J.P. Utz suffered two losses on Friday, and was out of the tournament when I got there on Saturday.

Madison's Anthony Jewett defeats Lee's Corey Burgan 4-2 to take third place in the State.

Madison's Jeff Foster defeats John Battle's Jeremy Fisher by fall in the 152 lb class in the Virginia Group A State Wrestling Championships at Salem, VA.

William Monroe's Kyle Biesecker loses 6-4 to Manassas Park's Gilbert Rodriguez in the 3rd/4th place match at the Virginia Group A State Wrestling Championships in Salem, VA. Kyle finishes 4th in the State and Gilbert take 3rd place.

Bull Run District Semi Final tonight, Madison vs William Monroe, at George Mason.  Madison had a rough start, taking the floor for warmups about 6 minutes late.  They trailed 17-9 at the end of the first period, but turned things around in the second, taking their first lead on a Bobby Ford three, and eventually finishing out the half with a 27-26 lead.  Madison led by 8 with just over four minutes to play, but William Monroe would tie it at 51 with just over a minute to play in the game.  Regulation ended with the score tied at 53.  Monroe took an early lead and never trailed in OT, eventually winning 67-60.

Not surprisingly, Madison had the most fans.
