An updated team photo was needed for the state tournament program, so we shot this last week. You can click either photo to go to the gallery.
A little technical info for anyone interested. The second photo down there was shot on film. The state program photo, and the first one in the gallery, is digital. Digital was needed for quick turnaround for the program.
Strobe + film.
You can see the light setup in the first photo. Both lights are Einsteins. (I was standing at the camera bag in the center of the first photo) The main, on the left, is at full power and gave me F5.6 at ISO 200 at the chairs. The “background” light (in the center of the photo) was set to give me F5.6 on the back wall (I hate dark backgrounds on team photos). I shot digital at the same settings.
Both lights have the standard silver reflectors, and are pointed approximately 45º towards the ceiling. I like some direct light from the flash to hit the subject, and want the bounce off the ceiling to fill in any shadows. Same for the background light, except no direct light from the background light hits the subject.

Madison defeated R.E. Lee 59-57 tonight in the finals of the Region 2A East tournament at Hanover High School. Madison will play Friday, March 3, at 2:30pm against Chatham in the State 2A quarter finals. The game will be played at JMU. Click the photo below to see the gallery from the game.

From MCHS Athletics: The Boys Basketball team beat Amelia tonight 61-56 in overtime to advance to the Region 2A East Championship game. This was an exciting back and forth game in front of a jam packed crowd. Isiah Smith led the Mountaineers with 21 points. Gaines Swink added 18 and Kobi Alexander had 11. Madison will face RE Lee on Saturday night at 8:00pm at Hanover High School in Richmond.

From MCHSAthletics: The Boys Basketball team beat Greensville 84-55 to advance to the Region 2A East Semi-Finals. The win also secures a berth in next weeks VHSL Group 2A State Tournament for the Mountaineers. Madison broke open a close game late in the 1st quarter by going on a 15-4 run. Greensville never threatened after that. Gaines Swink continued his hot shooting leading Madison with 20 points. Dre Twyman and Kobi Alexander dominated the paint scoring 19 and 14 respectively and both having double digit rebounds. Isiah Smith also got in the double double action with 14 points and 12 assists. Madison will host Amelia County on Thursday February 23rd at 7:00pm. Amelia is the #1 seed from Conference 34 and beat East Rockingham 81-67 tonight.

Madison varsity boy’s basketball defeated Page this evening 77-59. Gaines Swink led the Mountaineers with 20 points, Kobi Alexander had 16, Isiah Smith with 15, and Elijah Lewis with 11. Madison will play next Tuesday night (Feb 21), at home at 7:00pm, against Greensville (Greensville beat King William 78-74 in their 1st round game.).
