MCHS Varsity Boys Basketball vs Amelia Raiders, State 2A Semi Final

Madison lost to Amelia this evening 61-55 in the State 2A semi final.  Madison finishes their season with a 26-3 record.  (Swink led the Mountaineers with 19 points).  Great season for Madison.  It’s certainly fun to see the county come together like that in support.  NO other county comes close.  Click the photo below to see the gallery from the game.

In the other semi, RE Lee, after trailing most of the game, tied the game to force OT, and eventually beat Dan River 75-72.  Some CRAZY basketball games this year!

MCHS Varsity Boys Basketball vs Chatham, State 2A Quarter Final at JMU

From MCHS Athletics:  The Boys Basketball team beat a determined Chatham team this afternoon 61-47 in the VHSL Group 2A State 1/4 finals. Chatham led most of the game but Madison’s 3 seniors refused to let their season end early. With Madison trailing by 5 in the 4th quarter, it was Isaiah Breckenridge that came up with a huge steal to spark the comeback. From there, Dre Twyman and Isiah Smith took over and once the Mountaineers finally took the lead on a 3 pointer from Elijah Lewis they never looked back, out scoring Chatham 17-4 the rest of the way. Dre Twyman was the star of the night finishing with 18 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocked shots and drawing 3 charges for the game. Isiah Smith scored 19 and Gaines Swink added 14 points. Kobi Alexander had 2 points but made his presence felt on the boards all night once again grabbing double digit rebounds. Madison will face Amelia County tomorrow afternoon at 4:15 at JMU in the semi-finals. Amelia defeated Richlands in their 1/4 final game. This one promises to be a thriller since Madison beat Amelia in overtime last week in the Region semifinals.
