MCHS Swimming at the Region B Championships

In the first year of swimming at MCHS, eight swimmers qualified for the Region B Championships held at Manassas Park:  Kara McHaney, Drew Kelliher, Christine Mullen, Johnny Mullen, Danielle Scott, Suzi Windland, Ryan Powers, and Kara Omer.  Kara McHaney and Drew Kelliher both qualified for next week’s Virginia, Group A State meet next week.

Kara McHaney placed first in the girl’s 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly.  She already had a state qualifying time in the 500 yard freestyle.

Drew Kelliher placed first in the boy’s 200 yard freestyle and second in the boy’s 100 yard butterfly.

Johnny Mullen started off the meet by singing the National Anthem!

Madison's Kara McHaney wins the girl's 200 yard freestyle at the VHSL Region B Championships with a time of 2:09.03. Suzi Windland places seventh with a time of 2:37.41.

 

The 50 free, below, is one of the harder races to shoot.  LOTS of splashing going on, and the camera LOVES to focus on splashes!

Madison's Ryan Powers won his heat, and placed 8th, with a time of 27.65 in the boy's 50 yard freestyle, at the VHSL Region B Swimming Championships held at Manassas Park, and hosted by George Mason.

Madison's Drew Kelliher placed second in the boy's 100 yard butterfly with personal best time of 59.84, in the VHSL Region B Swimming Championships held at Manassas Park, and hosted by George Mason.

Things that make you say “hmmmm….”

MCHS Boy’s Basketball vs Manassas Park

The Boys Varsity Basketball team beat Manassas Park at home tonight on Senior Night 64-44.

All four Mountaineer Seniors (Patrick Roebuck, Travis Warren, Nick Paxton and Gage Berryman) were honored prior to the game.

Madison using the momentum from the pregame ceremonies jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the 1st quarter and never trailed the rest of the game.

The Cougars made a run in the 2nd quarter cutting the halftime margin to 23-17.

Madison held a double digit lead for most of the 2nd half with the exception of one Park run that cut the margin to 5. Madison used an 11-0 to start the 4th quarter to seal the win.

Travis Warren led the way for Madison with 17 points and 11 assists. Matt Temple finished with 14 and Patrick Roebuck added 12 points. Nick Paxton had 9 points and again was dominant on the defensive end of the floor blocking several shots and grabbing a bunch of rebounds. Gage Berryman added 6 points as well.

Madison’s JV boys also won tonight, defeating Manassas Park 58-43.
