Madison Girl’s Soccer vs George Mason

Published by under george mason, girls soccer

Sooooo….did we witness history today?  Am I correct that we’ve never beaten nor tied George Mason in the history of girl’s soccer at MCHS?  Whether or not that’s true, tying the defending State Champions is a pretty big deal!

UPDATE:  In 2005, MCHS varsity girls beat George Mason 1-0 at Madison on a goal by Holly Grubb.  To my knowledge, that is the only time Madison has beaten Mason.  (Thanks to Bruce Parker for the updated info!)

Samantha Cubbage scored Madison’s lone goal a little over 6 minutes into the game.  Mason would tie it around the 20 minute mark…and it stayed that way through the end of the game and through two overtimes.  Lots of close scoring chances by both teams…but neither could pull off the win.  So, Madison’s record goes to 7-0-1, and they’ve outscored their opponents 38-2.    Next up, Clarke on Tuesday….

HEY….there’s this really big soccer game on Friday…

Published by under girls soccer

If you’ve been under a rock since basketball season, you might not know that Madison’s varsity girl’s soccer team is undefeated (7-0 overall, 1-0 in Bull Run District play) and have outscored their opponents 37-1. They play the defending State Champion George Mason Mustangs on Friday at 5:30pm at home. You should be there.

Stay tuned for a soccer poster sometime next week.  Here’s a little preview….

Basketball Celebration Dinner & Basketball Book

Published by under basketball,State Championships

If you didn’t know, a Basketball State Championship Celebration Dinner and Fundraiser is planned for this coming Sunday at the Madison Fire Hall. More info is on the right.  If you don’t have tickets yet, be sure to stop by one of the local businesses listed and purchase them.  (You won’t be able to buy them at the door, the caterer needs to know how many to plan for, so you must buy tickets before Sunday.)

There will be a slideshow of photos running during the dinner, as well as video highlights from the season, and also a video recording of the State Championship game.  There will also be auction items such as team photos signed by the team, and other Mountaineer Basketball memorabilia.

I’ve also put together a photo book from this year’s season, similar to the one I did last year, but this one has a better ending :-).  There are photos from throughout the season, a Foreword by Jason Pounds (MCHS Class of 1997) and an article summarizing the year by Scrimmage Play’s Ryan Yemen.

The price of the books is $55 each.  If you’re attending the dinner, the books will be $45 each for books purchased or ordered AT THE DINNER (you’re paying to get in so you get a deal on the book).   A limited number of copies will be available to purchase at the dinner.  If we run out, we’ll be glad to take orders.  Any profits from the sale of the book go to the Basketball Boosters.
