Madison won the Region B Championship tonight 59-31 over the Altavista Colonels. Leading Madison was Jerel Carter with 15 points (including a half court 3 pointer to end the third period). Region B Champions!!!
Altavista's Mike Poindexter scored 30 points (including 8 three-pointers) in the Colonel's win over Page in the Region B Semi-Finals. Matt Garr and Madison held him to TWO points tonight!
This wasn't called a foul....and Logan made the shot!

…and advances to the Region B Finals at Spotswood High School Saturday night. Madison will be playing Altavista. Altavista defeated Page 84-79 in the other Region B Semi-Final at EMU. Logan Terrell led Madison with 22 points. Jerel Carter (12) and Casey Campbell (10) were also in double figures.

P.S. The students stand up during games. If you don't want to stand up, don't sit behind the students. They are a large portion of our "6th man". Don't mess with the students!

…and, Luray over Cumberland 85-40. Madison will play Luray on Thursday night in the Region B Semi Finals in Orange (game at 7pm, doors open at 6pm).
Nine seniors played their last game at home tonight. Trey Hensley led all scorers with 18 points, all of them 3-pointers. Logan Terrell was next with 16, Jerel Carter had 14, David Falk 12, and Matt Garr 8. (click a picture below to see photos from the game)

Also in there are Manassas Park’s Maximo Gonzalez-Paredes win over Galax’s Edu Rojas in the 119 lb class and Strasburg’s Colin Barne’s win over William Wright of Rural Retreat in the 171 lb class.

I shot the final day of the State Wrestling Championships yesterday down in Salem. This is the first time I’ve been there for the finals…it wasn’t the outcome we wanted for Madison, but the “spectacle” of the State Championship matches was worth the trip.
It starts with the lights completely out in the Salem Civic Center, just four blinding spotlights. A high school kid sings the National Anthem…there’s the Parade of Champions where previous State Wrestling Champions are paraded around while being blinded by the spotlights. Then the wrestling finalists enter the arena with smoke and spotlights and each is introduced.
Then the emotion starts….and the blood…

Of course, LOTS of Madison, but also shot a lot of the other Bull Run District teams including Strasburg, Manassas Park, and Clarke. The Bull Run District was VERY well represented at the State Championships, including a very large contingent of Strasburg fans…..who loudly rooted for Ethan during his State Final match.
